[00:00:00] Speaker A: Guys, huge news. Sneaky geek is back. We're on episode 22, and it's a four parter. Hi, everybody, and welcome back to another exciting episode of Sneaky Geek. [00:00:44] Speaker B: But this one's special comic Con edition. [00:00:47] Speaker A: Bum, bum, bum. And this time, we got ourselves a Tate. [00:00:52] Speaker C: Hi, everybody. This is Tate. [00:00:54] Speaker A: So we are at Comic Con. So this is your comic con edition of Sneaky Geek. And we had what is by far the best Thursday I think I've ever had. Lots of super cool shit. Brian. [00:01:08] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:01:10] Speaker A: Tell the people what happened in the beginning of our day today. [00:01:15] Speaker B: We ate some really good Costco muffins. [00:01:18] Speaker A: Yes. [00:01:18] Speaker B: The chocolate are on point. [00:01:20] Speaker A: Yes. [00:01:22] Speaker B: And then that was a bit. We just kind of hung out. [00:01:25] Speaker A: Yeah, that was it. That was it. We just kind of hung out at a comic con for the rest of the day. It's been a great episode, everybody. We'll talk to you later. [00:01:31] Speaker C: Yeah, this has been muffin talk, and we will see you later. [00:01:39] Speaker A: Thanks. [00:01:41] Speaker B: But for reals, though. For real. Holy shit. So we ended up going to the Clone wars panel, the 10th anniversary Clone wars panel with Dave Filoni. [00:01:52] Speaker A: This is the podcast. Bryce is having a minor freak out just thinking about it again. [00:01:56] Speaker B: This has happened, like, seven or 800 times between all of us. [00:02:00] Speaker C: You're underestimating the amount of times Bryce has been in this emotional roller coaster that is the return of Clone wars. [00:02:07] Speaker B: Yeah. So let's break that down so it's really cool. [00:02:10] Speaker A: Okay, real quick. So we kind of just jumped right to the end of that story with way to just throw the punchline out right off the bat, Tate. But, yeah. Holy shit. [00:02:25] Speaker C: Backwards. [00:02:26] Speaker B: So anyways, got to the panel, and it was 10th anniversary panel, and they were just like, oh, let's show a bunch of drawings that Dave Filoni did on cocktail napkins and shit like that. And notes during meetings for episodes and stuff that hadn't aired because it was canceled. For the backstory, please see episodes. Whatever. We did. Episode two and three was it. [00:02:46] Speaker A: That was three and four. [00:02:47] Speaker B: Anyway, we did some Clone wars episodes. Go listen to them. We'll wait. [00:02:52] Speaker A: And we're back. [00:02:53] Speaker B: Okay, we're back. Great. So glad you enjoyed those. Anyways, so they canceled clone wars. Sadly, they brought it back for, like, half a season. Some things were done. Some things were, like, recorded and not done. Some things were wireworked and not done. So there's a bunch of various stages, including the novel dark disciple and the Darth Maul comic book. So then they're just showing a bunch of stuff from along the years. [00:03:19] Speaker A: Basically stuff that you would get if you had like a special edition dvd or something like, oh, here's some concept art. [00:03:25] Speaker B: Or if they put out like an art book or something like that. Yeah. [00:03:28] Speaker A: We saw the very first trailer they showed for Clone wars that they threw together in a weekend for Star wars celebration. [00:03:34] Speaker C: Still completely was, which was great. [00:03:37] Speaker A: And Ashley Eckstein was there. And the voice of Anakin, Matt something. [00:03:41] Speaker B: And Matt Lanter. [00:03:42] Speaker A: Lantern. Yes, Matt Lantern. And the composer of the music, Kevin Kiner. Kevin Kiner, who is fantastic, has done 30 different films at least. And like 500 or something like that. Yeah. 5000 different episodes of television. Lots of really great stuff. [00:04:00] Speaker B: So they were all there. Athena, she's one of the producers. [00:04:05] Speaker A: She's an animator, right? [00:04:08] Speaker C: She was a visual director. [00:04:10] Speaker A: Visual director, yeah. So she knows the animation, how difficult. [00:04:14] Speaker C: Those things can be. [00:04:14] Speaker A: So basically, we got everything that you'd want out of like a special edition dvd. Like, oh, okay. Now we got some cool behind the scenes footage. We got to see some concept art we didn't want to see or we didn't want to see. We didn't get to see. [00:04:26] Speaker B: We got a lot of cool concept art from the episodes that were going to be the dark disciple novel. Well, the episodes that were made into the dark disciple. So that was really cool, getting those little shots. [00:04:36] Speaker A: One of my favorite parts about that too was that they had really, really loose kind of sketches for some and really detailed ones. And he said, explain it. That the reason that dark disciple was so detailed because he knew exactly what it was. But the ones that they were still kind of working through the concepts, they were a lot looser. Yeah. [00:04:55] Speaker C: As I was saying, the looser the sketch, the more they had to come up with for the episode. [00:05:00] Speaker B: They came up with the basic action sequences and what they wanted out of it. And then they were going to flesh it out. [00:05:04] Speaker A: Right. [00:05:05] Speaker C: Like the droid episodes or baby Boba in his armor. [00:05:08] Speaker A: Yeah, baby Boba in his armor. [00:05:10] Speaker C: Heavily detailed baby Boba and baby boba. [00:05:14] Speaker A: Baby boba rubber baby boba buggy bumpers. But then, like the episode with all of the Astromechs stuck in the desert, super detailed because he's like, this is the only way these shots are going to work. We have to know how the angle, dialogue. Yeah, because there's no dialogue. It has to be all beeps and boops. [00:05:30] Speaker C: One guy monologuing to beeps and boops the whole time. [00:05:33] Speaker A: So we got everything we really wanted. [00:05:37] Speaker B: Out of 45 minutes into it. Like a nice recap, they showed some. [00:05:41] Speaker A: And then they gushed a little bit about each other, which is really nice. It was kind of like this, really, like, hey, you guys need to understand. Ashley Eckstein said that Dave Filoni was the best director she's ever worked with. Kevin Kiner said that he's the best director. Like, everybody just gushed over him. Yeah. Then they gushed about the fans a little bit, and they were like, you know, it's been ever since I got a Twitter, filoni said, ever since I got a Twitter, I don't think an hour has gone by where someone hasn't tweeted me, like, save clone wars. And he was like, I know you guys wish you to come back. I see how much you guys love this, and I really appreciate know we've, we've all given up at this. Like, we all knew as soon as Disney bought it. Like, that's the end of the Disney machine. Don't forgive and don't forget. And they were like, no, this is all you get. [00:06:26] Speaker B: Cartoon networks, they own the show. [00:06:29] Speaker A: Cartoon Network owned the show. And the rights for distribution were a little funky. We weren't sure what we could. There wasn't really an answer for that problem. And then he's like, and then we. [00:06:40] Speaker B: Got a little something for you guys. [00:06:41] Speaker A: He's like, we put a little something together for you guys. And he was really weirdly cryptic about it. You could tell he didn't want to say. [00:06:48] Speaker C: We all think this is like a short five minute thing for the fans. We think it's just like, oh, here's a wrap up. Everyone did something. [00:06:56] Speaker A: Yeah, like a wrap up or an epilogue or even like a little short. Like, hey, we actually had a little bit of animation done. We've never actually shown before. I figured something cool like that. [00:07:05] Speaker B: Like that. Yeah. But it wasn't. [00:07:07] Speaker A: Then the lights went out and everyone kind of quietly lost their shit. I was like, you could feel the whole crowd be like, what the hell are they about to show us? You suddenly knew because the lights went out super ominously. And then Rex monologues. Well, and then not even Rex monologue, just general clone monologue, because it starts with Rex, but then he's like, I'm Commander Cody. And then you got, this is five. He's top. You know, everything comes in there. You can call me. We got a bunch of shinies in here with Rex. He's like, my name is Rex. You can call me captain or know. And life is just like. You're like, yeah. And they keep going back on all these helmets and you're like, okay, cool. Not real difficult. Not really difficult to animate a bunch of helmets. I see we threw this together. [00:07:51] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:07:52] Speaker A: And then they just started showing more shit. [00:07:54] Speaker B: Yeah, but it was like, it didn't look familiar. [00:07:57] Speaker C: Then we got Anakin's back. [00:08:00] Speaker B: Yeah, we got Anakin's back, but he had longer hair. And we're like, wait, this is new. This isn't old. We've never seen any of this. [00:08:09] Speaker C: We've had a modern processor for the graphics. [00:08:12] Speaker A: That too. And then they showed that title. [00:08:16] Speaker B: And then they showed Obi wan with a beard that looked so. [00:08:19] Speaker A: They showed the title, and everybody's like, holy crap. That's super cool. That was so fun. And then it fades back in, and you're like, why are we still doing this? And then Anakin and Obi wan walk in. He's like, rex, what do you got to show me? [00:08:30] Speaker B: And then Obi wan and episode three, looking garbage robe. And Anakin has his long hair in episode three. And we're like, what? [00:08:39] Speaker C: Anakin's asking, what's so important? Come on. [00:08:42] Speaker A: And then we see Ahsoka Tano, my favorite Jedi in the whole world, in. [00:08:47] Speaker C: A hologram will always be surprised to say those words. [00:08:50] Speaker A: And then in a hologram turns around and is like, what up, master? Yeah, been a minute. [00:08:57] Speaker C: Got a crown now. [00:08:58] Speaker A: It's got a cool crown thing on her face. Her lakers are a little longer. [00:09:02] Speaker B: She's a little bit taller. [00:09:03] Speaker A: She's a little taller. And people kind of freak out. People started yelling, and then they were like. But it was so funny because everyone was, like, trying to stifle themselves dialogue. [00:09:17] Speaker C: And then they showed a bunch of cool shit. [00:09:22] Speaker B: You could see this all online, by the way. [00:09:24] Speaker A: It's all online. We're just reliving it because we're super geeking out about this right now. [00:09:29] Speaker C: They knew it would leak fast. [00:09:30] Speaker A: I'm sure they put it out themselves immediately. [00:09:34] Speaker B: Lights came on. [00:09:35] Speaker C: Lights. [00:09:37] Speaker A: Let's do it again. [00:09:38] Speaker B: And there was the hashtag, and it. [00:09:40] Speaker A: Said, the clone war saved. [00:09:41] Speaker B: And that's when everybody lost. [00:09:42] Speaker A: And everyone lost their mind. And people cried. People hugged, we hugged, we cried, we threw our hands near. I screamed like a little girl. [00:09:54] Speaker C: You can find that several times. Several times. [00:09:56] Speaker B: You can find that in our Instagram feed story. [00:09:58] Speaker A: Yeah, our Instagram story and Facebook story has me screaming like a little girl. And then he got a standing ovation, like, the whole crowd. And everyone you can see, like, ashley Eckstein's up there crying. And the rest of them, they're all hugging each other. They're all just so happy to finally be able to tell us all. And then he goes, you guys want to watch that again? And everybody calms down, sits back down, watches it, and as soon as it's done, we're going to say a standing ovation. [00:10:24] Speaker B: We have. We have new episodes because before they didn't say anything about what was going on. They just said the trailer. It's like, oh, you want to watch it again? And there's like, okay, yeah, we have new episodes. And that was it. [00:10:34] Speaker A: Yeah, they're going to be available on the Disney direct online streaming service. I assume that that's either a ploy by Disney to be like, oh, yeah, we don't want to necessarily risk that, or b, because they're like, oh, we can't show things on television because we have certain legal boundaries for that. I don't know how it stands. [00:10:55] Speaker C: As much as we love it because they put it on their own prioritized service, it'll never get the ratings that they absolutely want and it deserves. [00:11:03] Speaker A: No, that's true, but no, the Star. [00:11:07] Speaker B: Wars fans find a way. [00:11:08] Speaker A: They find a way. [00:11:11] Speaker C: Honestly, unlike Dr. Malcolm, we find an actual mean. [00:11:17] Speaker A: It works like Steven Universe does simulcast where they'll release it online because they realize that they keep losing their stuff, it keeps getting leaked, and they keep spoiling huge things. But anyway, so that was the beginning of our day. [00:11:33] Speaker B: Yeah, it was. [00:11:35] Speaker A: It was the first thing we did. Only panel we went to do, I think we kind of forgot most of the day. [00:11:40] Speaker C: It's comic Con. You always. [00:11:43] Speaker A: So we got posters out of, and then, and then during it, they handed out all these tickets and they said, oh, by the way, those posters are, or those posters. Those tickets aren't raffle tickets. They're like a redeemed ticket. [00:11:53] Speaker B: Yeah, they're redeemed tickets. Take them over to the Hilton. Grab yourself a poster. [00:11:58] Speaker C: It's exactly what you saw on the screen here. [00:12:00] Speaker B: Yeah. And that's when we lost our shit again. [00:12:03] Speaker A: We all got a poster out of it said, hashtag clone wars saved and had Cody's helmet on. And. And it was just wonderful. [00:12:13] Speaker B: It was so wonderful. [00:12:15] Speaker A: Such a great way to start comic con. [00:12:16] Speaker B: So then after that, we were just so in awe. We saw a couple friends that we hadn't seen a little while, and we were all, like, hugging and excited, and. [00:12:24] Speaker C: There was love in the air. [00:12:25] Speaker A: There was, there's much fandom, and there were a ton of Star wars cosplayers, and we took some great photos of them, and I mean, okay, the photos aren't great, but there were tons of photo ops, and they were great. They were. Haven't gotten there yet. Then a bunch of stuff happened. [00:12:44] Speaker B: We ended up walking the floor a little bit. We saw our good buddy Dave. We saw a couple of good budies Dave over at their booths. [00:12:51] Speaker A: Yep. We saw Dave Ziegler, our friend of the podcast, longtime friend of the podcast. In our clone War episodes, I insulted. [00:13:00] Speaker C: The producer of Teen Titans. [00:13:01] Speaker B: Go to the movies. [00:13:02] Speaker A: Oh, my God. Okay, let me tell at least part of the story, and then I'll let Tate take over. So we are standing at Dave Ziggler's booth, and by Dave Ziggler's booth, I mean Steve's booth that Dave works at. And we're standing at the booth, and at some point, somebody mentions, like, teen titans go to the movies. They did. Yeah, these two guys mentioned it, and Dave's like, oh, yeah, I saw it. It's great. [00:13:24] Speaker C: Where did you see. [00:13:26] Speaker A: Oh, because we had been talking about our disappointment in the Titans trailer, because the Titans trailer has some mean they made. They took some choices with it. [00:13:37] Speaker C: As far as the trailer goes, that. [00:13:39] Speaker A: I hope are not defining features of the entire show. We'll find out. But we were talking about that, and these guys mentioned teen times to go to the movies, and Dave was like, oh, I saw it. It's really good, you guys. And he was letting him know because he saw it at Vidcon when he went with Mo for mo's con mitzvah, which, fun fact, mo's con mitzvah was Vidcon and not a comic con. Yeah, super cool. So they saw it there, and then Tate told his opinion on the film, which is not about the film because he obviously hasn't seen it yet. But there were some rumors going around that the success of this film could determine some stuff. [00:14:14] Speaker C: So Tate said, I was discussing at least the rumors that essentially holding a season six of the original Teen Titans series hostage with the reviews and the sales of the movie, can you explain. [00:14:29] Speaker A: Kind of what basically that means? [00:14:31] Speaker C: Basically, that would mean if the movie did well, the original Teen Titans series would get another season similar to Samurai Jack. [00:14:41] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:14:41] Speaker B: So the season's not done. [00:14:43] Speaker C: The season's not even done yet. [00:14:46] Speaker A: And so one of the guys, he's like, who would you hear that from? And Tay was like, I couldn't tell you where. And they were like, that came from Tara strong. You can't always trust what voice actors say. And he said it kind of knowingly, and I was, don't you don't insult voice actors unless you work with them or are one, because everybody else just loves those guys. And even still, it's obviously a jest. Then the guy talks to Dave a little bit more about it because Dave was really into it. He said, I thought it was really funny. [00:15:16] Speaker C: Thankfully, I didn't go any further. [00:15:17] Speaker A: We didn't go any further about our disdain for Teen Titans go or anything like that. And the thing is, this movie, I think, has come to a point where Teen Titans go is painfully aware that they are not a replacement. [00:15:31] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:15:31] Speaker A: But that they are not a replacement. And that people are upset about them being kind of treated as one by the network. But that's the network issue. And frankly, Cartoon Network has a whole bunch of things to answer for in the last several years. But he didn't say anything like that. We didn't say a single thing. And then the guy who asked us about teen titans ghost says, yeah, I produced that movie. [00:15:54] Speaker C: And that's when I'm making diamonds. [00:16:00] Speaker B: And about 2 seconds later is when I walk up because I was in the restroom the whole time. [00:16:03] Speaker A: The sheepishness of Tate in that moment was, I was like, I feel Tate. And he's like, I mean, I stand by what I say, and I'm like. [00:16:10] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, I was being honest. [00:16:14] Speaker A: Thankfully, there were no assumptions made about the film itself, which was really cool. [00:16:19] Speaker C: And they were really cool. They were. I was happy about that. He wanted honest opinions from people, and I appreciate that. It was good. [00:16:34] Speaker A: He did seem a little concerned when Dave was like, yeah, I've already seen it. He's like, how'd you see? So they did a showing at Vidcon, and then it turns out that that guy, like, dave was like, I thought you looked familiar because that guy had introduced the movie at Vidcon, and Dave walked in right as they were, like, walking. [00:16:54] Speaker C: Have Dave might have noticed a little earlier. We were clueless. Thus the man. It was awesome. [00:17:02] Speaker A: Yeah. So then we went from there over to the Marvel booth, and we got some cool marvel stuff. [00:17:07] Speaker B: Saw some marvelous people over there that we know. [00:17:11] Speaker C: People that we know walked around a little bit more. [00:17:14] Speaker B: What else do we do? [00:17:18] Speaker A: We smashed. Oh, we smashed so hard. I won. And what they give you for winning. When we all went together and smashed, I got pinned. We played super Smash brothers, the new one. And it's beautiful. [00:17:42] Speaker C: It's beautiful. [00:17:43] Speaker A: It's control scheme. I'm still getting used. [00:17:45] Speaker C: It's a fighting game. What do you expect? [00:17:47] Speaker A: Yeah, but it looks beautiful. I played as Ridley, which was super freaking cool. And then after that, I played as pit because I wanted to win that pin. I wanted to get pinned. Yeah. I wanted to spam and I couldn't figure out how to do all the spammy moves. Who'd you play as? [00:18:03] Speaker B: I played as Ryu at first, which was really cool. From Street Fighter. [00:18:07] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Ridley from Metroid and pit from Kiddocris. [00:18:10] Speaker B: Yeah, it was really cool. They got all sorts of characters from all sorts of properties in there and then played mewtwo. [00:18:15] Speaker A: Nice. [00:18:16] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:18:17] Speaker C: You had an Eevee fall as player four at the same time? [00:18:21] Speaker B: Yeah. No, yeah, an Eevee showed up out of nowhere. [00:18:25] Speaker C: I think the Eevee was a distraction item. Basically, see that big player four and people not actually paying attention because I looked at it and Bryce's bar, I mean, Brian's bar wasn't going up any worse. [00:18:39] Speaker B: Yeah. But no, it was really fun. I usually suck at those games because I just suck. [00:18:44] Speaker A: Oh, I definitely suck at, but I. [00:18:45] Speaker B: Didn'T do as bad as I thought I would have. [00:18:47] Speaker A: No. I mean, I was last place, but that was just because I spent the entire time avoiding everybody. Both times last place. Yeah. And then Tate, who'd you play as? [00:18:56] Speaker C: First time I was breath of the wild link, and then second time I was cloud because I didn't want to accidentally constantly spam. Arrow. Cloud from Final Fantasy seven. [00:19:07] Speaker A: Cloud from Final Fantasy Vi versus Ridley from Metroid versus bayonetta versus mewtwo versus mewtwo. [00:19:15] Speaker C: We had a fourth there. Random dude. He beat us all rather soundly in the first round as Bayonetta and then thought, you could tell he's played this one. He's at least gone through it one time before because he knew bayonet is special move, right? [00:19:30] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:19:30] Speaker C: And then he decided, hey, I think I'm going to keep the familiar unit and trounce these guys who are just playing to have fun again. [00:19:40] Speaker B: Right. [00:19:40] Speaker A: And then he didn't. Tate got pinned. [00:19:42] Speaker C: Yeah, I kamikaze everyone a couple times and got my points up. [00:19:48] Speaker A: That was seriously, seriously cool. Like, everyone went flying off the screen. It was just a big x of streaks. It was awesome. And then he got a cool super smash bros. Pin, which was super neat. And then from there, I think we. [00:20:00] Speaker B: Decided to go find the posters. [00:20:01] Speaker A: Then we went from the posters, Comic Con, for those of you who've never been to a convention before, because we really haven't done a convention episode before, we probably should do like a full convention episode at some point. But Comic Con, for those of you who don't know is like most conventions, there is an exhibit hall where many, many companies and artists and vendors and all sorts of different people have booths and they will give things away at their booths. Some people will sell things at their booths. Besides that, there's also panels. So we kind of did the full gambit of those today. And then sometimes outside, you'll find extra things to do, extra cool things to check out. [00:20:39] Speaker C: Sometimes they have even the better swag outside. [00:20:44] Speaker A: I got a much stronger bag outside than I did inside last year. So we did the exhibit hall for a little bit, and then we left the exhibit hall to go get our posters, which was quite the trek. We walked everywhere. We walked past the four anime viewing rooms, through the Marriott Hotel. [00:21:01] Speaker C: Yeah, it was through the Marriott, then. [00:21:02] Speaker A: Behind the Marriott, past the magic room, past the board game room, past the movie viewing room. [00:21:12] Speaker C: And it turned out we were going. [00:21:13] Speaker B: The semi, but also we're in the completely wrong hotel. So we found it next door, got. [00:21:22] Speaker C: A really cool poster, hired poor people to hold signs outside, going like, wee posters this way around this entire building. [00:21:35] Speaker B: And then got the posters, like, chilled for a little bit, charged up the phones, decided to walk back to the con and go check some stuff out. And then we ran into Dave. [00:21:47] Speaker A: So Brian turns around and goes, Dave, Dave. And I'm like, everyone who's he's talking to, we know so many Dave's. And so I figure he must be one of the Dave's we know. And no, he is not one of the Dave's we know. [00:21:59] Speaker C: He is. [00:21:59] Speaker A: In fact. [00:22:00] Speaker B: Well, okay, so we were walked not even 10 seconds before. We're still just like, that panel was fucking amazing. It was so good. And I can't wait for the show. [00:22:08] Speaker A: I can't tell you how many times today I've just stopped and said, guys, clone wars coming back. Clone wars is coming back. You guys, I've welled up with tears multiple times. I've just gotten randomly, extremely giddy. You have to understand, when I realized what was going on, I just went like, nut job. And then cried and then hugged Brian, and then high five to girl next to me, who I didn't even know. And life was just so great. It was just so cool. Okay, tell the story. [00:22:39] Speaker B: So then we're gushing and we're walking down the road, and all of sudden a. I see this guy walk in past us. I'm like, he looks really familiar. He usually wears a hat. Holy shit, that's Dave Filoni. [00:22:50] Speaker C: He had ditched his cowboy hat, which is smart. [00:22:52] Speaker B: Because he would have been recognized otherwise, but you couldn't really tell. But I'm like, dave, Dave, thanks, buddy. Kind of thing. [00:23:02] Speaker C: Thank you so much. [00:23:03] Speaker A: He turned around and he was like, that panel was freaking awesome. It was freaking amazing. So awesome. And then I started saying I was ugly crying. I was ugly crying so much. We were all ugly crying. Thank you so much. And then we all just said thank you a couple of times. [00:23:19] Speaker B: Well, first it was really cool because it looked like he was in a hurry, but he turned around and he. [00:23:23] Speaker C: Stopped just to thank us for thanking him. [00:23:27] Speaker B: Yeah. And he's like, thanks, guys. [00:23:29] Speaker C: Probably at least keeping it a little low key, not yelling out his entire name. [00:23:33] Speaker A: Yeah. Which is one of my big things is I don't ever like to scream these people's names out and gush. Although I did wind up fanboying a little bit over somebody later in the day. We'll get there, though. [00:23:45] Speaker B: But, yeah, so, no, we said hi. We said thanks. He's like, oh, thanks, guys. He was like. [00:23:50] Speaker A: He was like walking backwards, but he. [00:23:53] Speaker B: Still wanted to interact with us, which is really cool. [00:23:55] Speaker C: A big smile. Big smile from that. He was like, totally. This is the type of thanks I want. Not you are God. Oh, man. [00:24:11] Speaker A: It was super cool. And then we went back, we went back into the exhibit hall. We didn't wind up going back to any panels that we were planning on. We were going to go to marvel rising. Didn't go to Marvel rising. We were going to go to Iron Fist. At least I wanted to. I'd love to see where they're going with it. So we got to watch all that stuff, which is another aspect of comic con that is really common now with Wondercon and maybe some of these smaller cons when a big announcement happens, you know, because you can go to pretty much all the know, especially in the smaller, smaller ones, like smaller than that, where they do make some announcements. If something happens, you know, that's going, yeah, if. [00:24:47] Speaker B: If something big happens here, like in hall h, you don't know until you get home or until you just manage to be on your phone looking at the Internet and just being like, oh, this was just announced like, 100ft to the left because there's so much going on here. [00:24:59] Speaker A: So much because we're getting an announcement on Clone wars. But in the same day that that Clone wars trailer drops, we got a new doctor who trailer. We got new information on Iron Fist. We got. What other big announcements we have to find out. [00:25:14] Speaker B: Yeah, we don't even know which is. [00:25:15] Speaker A: One of those things. At the end of the day, you got to look. [00:25:19] Speaker B: Dragon Ball super movie. [00:25:20] Speaker A: Dragon Ball, super movie trailer. I mean, there's just so many things that are all happening, and they're all happening everywhere. But the most important thing is that many of them are going to happen in Hall H. And if they're happening in Hall H, for those of you at home there, Hall H is the biggest banquet room. It's huge. [00:25:44] Speaker C: There will be a mile long line the entire night and into the morning. [00:25:50] Speaker A: People camp out for Hall h stuff, because Hall h is the big. The only one that comes close. Yeah, Kevin Smith's here tomorrow. The only thing. Smaller. Smaller. The only thing that comes close to Hall h is maybe ballroom 20. And a lot of big things happen in ballroom 20 as well. But last year, we struggled to get into ballroom 20 for a while. [00:26:14] Speaker C: Indigo ballroom. Indigo ballroom. [00:26:15] Speaker A: We went to the indigo ballroom. You're right. Even still, indigo Ballroom is also huge. [00:26:18] Speaker C: Yeah, indigo ballroom is like, indigo ballroom, ballroom 20. Hall h. I'd go, like, indigo Ballroom is about 75% the size of ballroom 20. And ballroom 20 is 75% the size of hall h, I'd say. [00:26:35] Speaker A: Yeah, it's massive. So then we went over, we saw Nicole Goo and Dave Baker. We're going to try to have them on the podcast later in the week, because we're going to try to have one of these out for you every night. [00:26:50] Speaker B: Hopefully. [00:26:50] Speaker A: Hopefully, we'll see what we can do. Tommy, don't hold us to it. And then we saw fuzzy. Yeah, we saw some really cool. We saw so many cool things. [00:27:00] Speaker B: There's just so much cool. [00:27:01] Speaker A: Yeah, we've been trying to put as much of it as we can onto the sneaky geek Instagram. It's all over our Instagram story. Definitely go check it out. We will try to post some other pictures onto our Instagram as well after. Oh, and then while we were over, hanging out with Fuzzy, standing in the booth right next to Fuzzy's was the author of one of my favorite comedy books from my freshman year of college, this guy named Maddox, who wrote this book called the ABCs of Manliness, which is just ridiculous, like, over the top satire kind of thing. But he wrote a book called Fuck Whales. And it's just all these things, like, well, fuck these things. I don't know. We had a great talk about comedy in this modern era of hyper awareness regarding what is acceptable and what's not and feelings. I found a few things today. I got an autographed bobblehead of Ashley Eckstein's character, Ahsoka Tano. And by Bobblehead, I mean like pop funko, pop figure. And then I got a copy of Fuck Whales, which is autographed with a note about our conversation that we actually had with Maddox today because we hung out with him for a little bit. And then I got a few issues of comics that I was looking for. I finally did the responsible thing and wrote down what comic issues I'm actually missing. [00:28:23] Speaker C: Nova with a mullet. [00:28:24] Speaker A: Yep. Nova with a mullet was in at least was in actually, two thirds of yes. Yeah. Tate, what did you get today? [00:28:31] Speaker C: Today, mostly all I got was a play arts aqua from Kingdom Hearts. Now, I could go into that for hours and hours and hours. [00:28:41] Speaker A: Okay, first of all, aqua is from birth by sleep. [00:28:43] Speaker C: Birth by sleep. This one specifically is from basically the demo for kingdom Hearts three. Kingdom Hearts 0.2, birth by sleep. A fragmentary passage, because. [00:28:55] Speaker A: Subtitles after your. After your main title. [00:28:58] Speaker C: Yeah, it's Kingdom Hearts. You have about 9000 of them before you have three. And it is big and loverly. [00:29:06] Speaker A: Ryan, what'd you get today? [00:29:08] Speaker B: I didn't get too much yet. I mean, we're still here for another few days and they don't get paid till Tuesday, so that's fun. But I did pick up a cool clone wars shirt with Captain Rex on the front and a cool republic army sign behind it, which is really cool. [00:29:24] Speaker A: Yeah, which is nice, too, because you can get a star booth. [00:29:28] Speaker B: It's from her universe booth, but it's the unisex one, which is really cool because I saw them. Like, I really want that shirt, but I don't know if it's going to make it look like I have boobs because it's fitted for a woman. [00:29:37] Speaker A: If you did, they would look great, I'm sure. [00:29:39] Speaker B: Thanks, buddy. I try. I think we picked up a few of the free magic starter decks that they're giving out. They're revamped from the ones we got at Wondercon. [00:29:51] Speaker A: I actually opened it up to make sure I didn't get another Siobhan dragon. [00:29:54] Speaker B: I did, because, I mean, I pulled. [00:29:57] Speaker A: Him out the other day and I almost destroyed you with it. Except for that stupid destroy all of my stuff crap that you pulled. That's another podcast. [00:30:07] Speaker B: I think that was pretty much it that I got today. [00:30:10] Speaker A: Get some free stuff at the Marvel booth. [00:30:12] Speaker B: Yeah, we got some cool stuff at the Marvel booth. As usual, they were handing out some cool comic variants, so I got a. [00:30:17] Speaker A: Captain Marvel we could grab at the DC booth tomorrow. [00:30:21] Speaker B: Yeah, we really should we need to go there. We got a few other places we need to go to. [00:30:24] Speaker C: I need to get to that Hasbro booth one of these days. [00:30:27] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Hasbro's got some cool stuff this year. [00:30:28] Speaker C: Optimus Primal. [00:30:30] Speaker B: Yes. [00:30:31] Speaker C: Primal. [00:30:31] Speaker B: If you guys haven't seen that, go look it up. It is legit looking. [00:30:35] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. I have always loved the design of Optimal Optimus. It's a little weird, because his backpack guns are also become normal. Optimus Primal. And when it's off, the monkey has no back, so it's weird, but when he's fully transformed into robot mode, he's got this kick ass crown. It's a remould of the basic power of the Prime. Optimus primal. [00:31:05] Speaker A: Yeah, I had an Optimus primal when I was younger, and it was. Dude, my Optimus Primal was. I think it was actually Maximus prime. It was huge, first of all, and it had, like, four transformations. It was the purple one, the purple and orange one. [00:31:19] Speaker B: Didn't you have that one, Tate? [00:31:20] Speaker A: Yeah, you did. [00:31:21] Speaker C: I have that one without a head. And that's optimal Optimus. Optimal Optimus. It's huge. Mine didn't have either the monkey head or the regular Optimus head, because. Gotten it from an estate sale later. [00:31:36] Speaker A: Really? [00:31:37] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. Oh, please. I would have taken far better care of that thing if that kid. I've always wanted that one. And the dragon Megatron. [00:31:49] Speaker A: Yeah, see, I wanted that one. I had the Velociraptor. What was his name? [00:31:53] Speaker C: Dinobot. [00:31:54] Speaker A: Dinobot. I had dinobot, but as the skeleton dinobot two. Dinobot. [00:31:59] Speaker C: That was the transmetal two. [00:32:00] Speaker A: Yeah. And that, like, with the fully functional tail. So when I saw the Optimus primal at the thing today, I was like, oh, this isn't nearly as cool as the two that I had in my. [00:32:13] Speaker C: You haven't seen the masterpiece dinobot, then? It's incredible. It's actually bigger than the old optimal Optimus. Oh, yeah, no, it's bigger down there. No, someone may have that one, but it's going to be a random vendor, right? Because you got to remember, transformers are made by tons of different companies, not just a single one. And this one is, like, nearly show accurate. It looks terrible in Beast mode because you can see all of the creases and all that from the transformation lines, but when it is in full robot mode, it looks totally show accurate to the original one and even has some cracked stuff from spoilers. The final scene from Dinobot before he went on. Yeah, tell my story. [00:33:06] Speaker A: We were just talking earlier today about how much we freaking loved Beast wars when we were a good. Oh, my gosh, it was so good. Okay, so, yeah, that's comic. That's kind of today, Thursday. We've got signings we're going to try to get a hold of tomorrow. [00:33:21] Speaker B: Yeah. Bryce, what are you looking forward for tomorrow? [00:33:24] Speaker A: So it turns out that Ben Levine, Matt Burnett, Ian Jones, Cordy and Rebecca Sugar are all here, which are major players in the Steven universe in production. And you know how I love my some Steven universe. They are in two different groups also. So if I do, I'm going to bring my copy of the answer, as well as the art book I got here from last year, because they're just. And I listen to these guys on their podcast all the time because they describe their show really detailed. They break everything down. And it's so cool because sometimes it's just the funniest story, and then sometimes it's like really artsy, deep kind of stuff. And I love it. So that I'd really like to get into. And then I know a few of the other ones that are going on that you guys are into, I'm also excited for. So I'll just let you guys tell them. So tomorrow. [00:34:10] Speaker C: Tomorrow. The signing that we're really excited for is the Ducktails sign. It's got the entire cast. Biggest one there, of course. David Tennant, Scrooge McDuck. [00:34:24] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. So good. [00:34:27] Speaker A: I remember Amir, who has never been on our podcast despite our many attempts. Amir told me one day, he was like, dude, have you watched the new DuckTales? And I was like, no, not mean. I don't know. I love my DuckTales, dude. It's so good. So one day I'm scrolling through channels. Of course, I don't have tv at my house. So I was at my parents house, and I'm visiting my parents, and I'm scrubbing through channels. Ducktails is on. So I turn it on, and of course somebody walks down the stairs and sees this grown ass man watching DuckTales. I'm like, hey, mom, how are you doing? [00:35:00] Speaker C: But I'll tell you, cereal. [00:35:03] Speaker A: I'll tell you, mom. [00:35:05] Speaker B: Meatloaf. [00:35:05] Speaker A: Meatloaf. But I'll tell you what, it is such a good show. [00:35:12] Speaker B: Really good. [00:35:12] Speaker A: It really, truly captures the spirit of that show. [00:35:15] Speaker B: I've seen the first four or five episodes, and I keep meaning to catch up later on. [00:35:20] Speaker C: I mean, good Lord, the cast is amazing. David Tennant, Ben Schwartz, Danny Pooty. [00:35:24] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:35:25] Speaker C: Bobby Moynihan, Kate McCucci. [00:35:29] Speaker A: I love Kate McCucci. She's also on Steven Universe. Wait a minute. Is she going to be there in scrubs? [00:35:36] Speaker B: Yes. [00:35:38] Speaker C: Kate McCucchie is on everything. [00:35:40] Speaker B: That's fair. [00:35:44] Speaker C: Excuse me. That will not be the gooch. [00:35:47] Speaker A: She's the gooch in scrubs. [00:35:49] Speaker C: Oh, that's right. Excuse me. Forget. I was just going by her name. [00:35:54] Speaker A: Catherine Tate. [00:35:55] Speaker C: Yes, Catherine. She's magica. It's fitting. [00:36:01] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't know who's, I don't. [00:36:04] Speaker A: Know who's going to be there, but. [00:36:05] Speaker C: I know it's going to be the. [00:36:08] Speaker A: Main Huey, Dewey and Louie and Louie. [00:36:11] Speaker C: Webby, Launchpad, Beck, Bennett, and that's about it. Pretty sure they're not going to have anyone else. I mean, it wouldn't be surprising to have Paul F. Tompkins because lord knows Gladstone is constantly in that series. [00:36:27] Speaker A: Yeah, we'll find out, I guess. So in order to do those, we have to go get tickets tomorrow morning, which means we got to get here early. 09:00 a.m. And go fight a crowd all the way. There might be ticket giveaway, autograph area. [00:36:41] Speaker C: It's upstairs where we got the lane. [00:36:44] Speaker B: Okay. [00:36:45] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:36:46] Speaker C: It's not hard to find. It's just hard to go through. And the battle royale that is murdering everyone to get to there. [00:36:53] Speaker A: Right. And of course, we don't want to spend all of our time in the exhibit hall, otherwise we wind up accidentally spending money. Oh, yeah. Well, I did. Now I have books, comics, and a really cool ahsoka tano bobblehead. Anyway, what are we going to do in order to avoid that? [00:37:12] Speaker B: There is a couple panels I want to go see. [00:37:15] Speaker A: Do you want to go to any signings? [00:37:17] Speaker B: No. In fact, I didn't really know you guys wanted to go to the autographs till, like, last night. [00:37:22] Speaker C: Don't forget, there is one signing you want. Timothy Zahn. [00:37:28] Speaker A: We would like to go get Timothy Zahn's autograph for his copy of Thrawn. Oh, and Christy Golden's going to be there, too. [00:37:34] Speaker B: Yes. [00:37:34] Speaker A: She wrote dark disciple, which is duel. But that's Saturday. Yes. Thank God. Okay. Actually, I think Rebecca Sugar is also Saturday. Anyway, it doesn't matter. What do you want to see tomorrow as far as panels? [00:37:43] Speaker B: So Marvel's got a couple cool panels. They got a spider man panel. They got a big old Spider man event coming up later this year called Spider Geddon, kind of the sequel to. [00:37:51] Speaker A: The Spider Verse, this time with probably less convolution and less. [00:38:00] Speaker B: Marvel. [00:38:00] Speaker A: Less convolution. Probably not. [00:38:02] Speaker C: Less convolution, less Spiderman. I'm going to probably say yes to maybe. I mean, they've shown the insomniac one on there. [00:38:10] Speaker B: Yeah. So they got the new video game Spiderman in the comic book, which is really cool. [00:38:14] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:38:15] Speaker B: So after that, there's the Marvel cup of Joe, and it's like the Marvel Knights 20th anniversary, which they haven't really done in, like, ten years, I want to say. So Marvel Knights was kind of a more serious teen plus version of some stories. [00:38:36] Speaker A: Marvel now? [00:38:37] Speaker C: No, Marvel now was Marvel nights less serious? [00:38:40] Speaker A: Marvel X? [00:38:41] Speaker B: No, Marvel nights. What was Jessica Jones under Marvel Knights? [00:38:45] Speaker A: No, I don't mind. [00:38:46] Speaker B: Alias. Yeah, that was her book. That was the book's name. [00:38:49] Speaker C: That was her entire book's name. [00:38:51] Speaker B: Yeah, it was alias. Yeah. [00:38:52] Speaker A: So anyways. [00:38:53] Speaker B: Yeah. Anyway, so they haven't done it in, like, I don't know, 8910 years. So it's kind of weird. They're like, oh, it's 20th anniversary. I'm like, you all haven't done it in a while, so I don't know if it really. But okay, whatever. But then also, last time there was. [00:39:03] Speaker A: An anniversary of something, they wound up bringing the whole guy. [00:39:05] Speaker B: Anything back. Yeah, but that's not quite how this one's working. [00:39:09] Speaker A: That's fair. [00:39:10] Speaker B: Hey, Clone wars is coming back. [00:39:12] Speaker A: Clone wars is coming back. [00:39:15] Speaker B: Speaking of Star Wars, Disney Lucasfilm has a publishing story thing going on. They don't really give much detail on who's going to be there or what stories they're going to talk about or if it's comics or if it's kids books or whatever, but, yeah, so that's going on. And then that's pretty much it. I know there's a Ducktails panel. [00:39:33] Speaker C: Yeah, there's a Ducktails panel. And they're probably going to go straight from the panel to the signing. [00:39:37] Speaker B: Yeah, probably. [00:39:38] Speaker A: And then over in ballroom 20, we. [00:39:41] Speaker B: Got cloak and dagger panel. [00:39:42] Speaker A: I'm probably going to skip that because I haven't watched any cloak and dagger yet. [00:39:45] Speaker B: Yeah, same. I keep meaning to watch it and things come up. [00:39:48] Speaker A: I just got caught up on Shield and Luke Cage. [00:39:51] Speaker C: I've got 90 billion anime and all that to watch. [00:39:55] Speaker B: And then there's the last one. That's the Sony pictures panel. They're going to be showing some venom stuff. They're going to be showing some biote. Yeah. Oh, God. And then they're going to be showing some into the Spiderverse. Spiderman movie, that animated one that's coming out. [00:40:08] Speaker C: The good Spiderman movie that's coming out this year. [00:40:10] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:40:13] Speaker C: I love dad joke. [00:40:15] Speaker A: Peter in there. [00:40:16] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:40:17] Speaker A: Zick Miller. [00:40:20] Speaker B: From New Girl. Yeah, that's pretty much it. That all I'm looking at forward to tomorrow. I'm kind of just going with the flow for the most part. [00:40:29] Speaker A: Right on. That's kind of me, too. I'm excited about the signature thing. I missed out on it last year, so I'd like to try to make an effort. But, Tate, you got anything else? Tomorrow after signings? [00:40:39] Speaker C: Tomorrow after signings. Nothing in particular, really. I'm going to look into Saturday stuff a bit more. I think Friday again, hall h is overtaking everything, as per usual, which makes it nearly impossible to get into anything. [00:40:57] Speaker A: Well, the nice thing about hall h, though, is it means that the other ballrooms are a little easier to get. [00:41:02] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Yeah. Which is nice. [00:41:04] Speaker A: And then after we did all that stuff, before we go, we also spent a little bit of time over in the gas lamp district, and that is the area outside of Comic Con in San Diego that's full of restaurants and all sorts of art galleries and cool stuff like that. And many of them are actually themed. And we found. I was walking by, and I suddenly realized that it's over, isn't it? Which was the main power theme from the Emmy nominated episode of Steven Universe from last season, was being played on a saxophone while a dude played, like, an electric guitar next to it. And I stopped and I listened. He was like, you like Steven Universe? I'm like, I love Steven Universe, buddy. So we went and played, like, two other songs from it, and we're going to try to get them out of the podcast later. They're a group called the Con Players, and you can find them on Instagram. At the conplayers, they said some people cosplay, we cosplay, and they're pretty cool. And we got a couple of other cool people we met today that wanted to come on the podcast. I talked to the safe haven people. We've got some cosplayers that want to come on here, so it should be a really busy weekend with a lot of really cool stuff for us. We just have to make sure we can fit in what we want to see as well as with what we want to talk about. [00:42:13] Speaker B: Right? [00:42:13] Speaker C: So, Lord knows that's always the most difficult part. So many places to be, so little time. [00:42:18] Speaker A: It's just tough to fit it all in, going out on that note. Bye bye, everybody. [00:42:25] Speaker B: Have a good one. [00:42:26] Speaker C: We love you. [00:42:27] Speaker A: See you tomorrow. [00:42:29] Speaker B: Bye. It's.
